COMMON QUESTIONS
ANSWER HONESTLY
Does solar work in the UK climate?
Yes. Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. UK systems typically produce 80% of the output of panels in southern Europe. Battery storage means you can use energy generated on sunny days throughout the evening.
Does my roof face the right direction?
South-facing roofs are ideal, but east and west-facing roofs still produce strong results. Your installer will assess your roof orientation, pitch, and shading during the free survey.
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
A UK government grant of £7,500 toward the cost of a heat pump installation. It’s deducted from your quote directly — your MCS-certified installer claims it. No application needed from you. Running until at least 2028.
Can I combine solar with underfloor heating?
Yes — and it’s one of the most efficient combinations available. Your solar panels power a heat pump, which runs your underfloor heating at low temperatures. Lower running costs, lower carbon footprint.
How long does installation take?
A typical solar and battery installation takes 1–2 days. Heat pump installation is usually 2–3 days. Your installer will give you a clear timeline during the survey.
Do I need planning permission?
Most domestic solar installations fall under permitted development and do not require planning permission. Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent. Your installer will confirm this during the survey.
